I am now in Jordan living in this really nice apartment in a house owned by a Jordanian family who let us stay there. I love it. Just a couple of days ago we started a 3-day trip into the desert and mountains of south Jordan.
The first day we visited some mountains and got to our campsite. When we got there it was so cool. We slept in a really nice Bedouin tent made out of goat and camel hair. It had electricity and showers and beds and toilets! The next day we started our trip to Petra hiking from our campsite. To get to Petra it took about 3 hours climbing really big and beautiful mountains which were really steep. When we got to Petra we first saw a humungous monastery where it was so big when people stood next to it the stairs up to it was taller than their heads, even my dads head. It was crazy. Then after that we walked down 750 steps. Glad I did not have to walk up them! When we got down we saw all different kinds of tombs and castles from ancient Nabateun times. It was so fun!
When we were done that day we drove to Wadi Rum to our other camp site which was not as nice but still awesome. You now why? Because we decided to sleep outside with the beautiful stars. (there were also tents too) It was so nice and even better we were in the desert.
The next day at about 9 o’clock camels arrived. I was so excited. So when we were on them it was so fun because I got to walk mine on my own and have a stick to turn it left or right. It did not hurt my camel by the way. So we did that for an hour and mine trotted. It was soooooooooooo fun. After that we were in a jeep which had a back to it so we all sat outside of the jeep (which had no seat belts). It was awesome!!! So all we did was jeep and hike the whole day through the desert seeing cool things like ancient writing on the rocks.
When we were done our trip we drove back to our house and went to bed. Oh and there is a really cute kitten who lives outside my door and I named her Tiger because she has orange and white stripes!
Here’s a slideshow of our 3-day trek:

Thanks so much for your post, Melissa!
I travelled to Jordan 3x when I lived in Egypt, and absolutely loved it. Enjoy! Looking forward to your next post
Well done!- you really DID see Petra (ie., not the Americans-on-a-donkey-Petra!). The Nabateans were astonishing, eh?
Have fun; stay well.
